new engine

   im having a new engine dropped in my mk1 vtr its done 44k on it but when it goes in would it say 44k on my dash ?
   someone said i would have to clock it back but aint that illegal ?

   No it won't say 44k and yes clocking is illegal.

   you can set the clocks to whatever you want, but the clocks should represent the mileage on the shell.
   if you did set it to 44k you would have to make it very clear what youve done when you sell it on, the illegal bit would be to sell on and say the whole car has only done 44k
