Okay have i done something wrong or am i just stupid, i took the headlight off, removed the clips, bulbs and everything like that put it in the oven at 100 degrees for 8 mins and took it out and it had melted! :O What have i done wrong ?
  2. #2
What have you done wrong? Well you melted it, thats what.

Its not a cake, theres no real set time to put headlights in the oven. Just have to keep trying to prise them apart ever min or so, its just so the glue holding the glass on starts going soft.
  3. #3
Yeah i know that but to be fair i just followed the guide on here sayin ten mins at 100 degrees everyone said it worked so i followed it and it melted it i get that it was too hot was just wondering if i hadnt removedsomething causing it to melt or something
so you say check it every couple of mins and keep prying it apart what did u use to pry it apart?

I did my fog lights, used a flat headed screwdriver between the gaps and twisted to prise it apart. Should really check all the time when putting car parts in an oven. Your lights do have glass lenses right? And its the backs that have melted. As if youve put lights with plastic lenses in the oven they will melt quite quick

the headlights have plastic lenses i believe its a mark 2 ? i know the fogs are glass but not so sure about the headlights
  6. #6
If they have (had) plastice lenses then you should be very carefull as they will melt quick. As opposed to mk1 headlights which are glass.

thats why i just use a hairdryer and a stanley knife
  8. #8
    Your oven is too good
  9. #9
it depends on the oven some heat up faster than other so its just you luck that your 1 went hotter faster than the 1 that has made that tread bad luck mate
and i dident chance the oven i just used a hairdryer and a flat head screwdriver and a stanley knife and hey presto 15-20mins and my both lights were open
if they are that bad mate i would get a new set and if your still want to try it i would go with the hairdryer

    gaz

Surely you mean gas oven? Fan ovens would be much nicer in this case

No i mean fan oven, the fan oven rapidly increases the heat and distributes it within the oven therefore heating the plastic to the same temperature as the glue. If it was gas you place the glass lense facing upwards towards the flames then the plastic wont melt.
