Important! : Please help me!! Misfiring after changing headgasket on VTR!! :(

    Hi everyone,

Really annoyed after spending all day changing my headgasket. I have a 98 VTR Black Top, which had developed a major leak from the the headgasket. Took the head off and found the gasket was split in the left corner, so cleaned it up, changed it and put it all back together. I locked the camshaft and flywheel as per the haynes manual, and these did not move at all. After putting everything back together, started the engine up to find it is misfiring on the 1st and 4th cylinders.

Have been looking all over the internet but still can't really find what it is, so any help at all would be much appreciated!!

    Thanks Jack

Have you got the HT leads on the right way? did you skim the head or do a pressure test on it?

Hey, yes the HT leads are on the right way. Didn't skim the head or do pressure test on it. Probably should have, but just wanted it done quick. Will try to get a pressure testing kit at some point, as I think it must be this now

does the engine use a dissy cap???
if you have re-timed the engine then wont the dizy cap be energizing the wrong leads at the wrong time??? there is a spining arm inside a dizzy cap that needs adjusting?
might be taking shit here but still lol.

early vtrs had leads. Compression test it, you did a bodge job not bothering to skim so quite feesable its gone again. Did you torque it all up properly in the correct order? How do you know its cylinders 1+4?
