Engine problems, Please help.

Ok so I have recently started having engine revving and idling problems. It can either be high revving upto around 3500 or it can be stalling at junctions. It mostly depends on how the car is feeling.

Also the car can sometimes take a few minutes to actually start and when it has started the car will continue to idle at 3500 revs which isn't good.

Would love to know whats up with my car as I don't fancy paying massive garage prices if it is an easy fix.

    Ta for now.

Sounds like a faulty idle control valve, but first try cleaning out the throttle body as they are known for getting very gunked up with carbon, and that can cause all sorts of idles/running problems and might sort it out for you, best to buy some carb cleaner from halfords, that stuffs great for cleaning Throttle flaps

Ok so after being quoted £150 for the garage to replace my ICV (I almost cried), I gave Citroen a ring and asked how much a new ICV was and they came back with £114 plus vat or some silly high number. So I took my ICV out and cleaned the junk off and made it all shinny, started her up and still the same problem.

Would ordering one off of ebay for around £20-30 do the same job as the £114 one?

you cleaned the ICV, but did you clean the throttle flap? , i have seen many where the revs were hunting ( going up and down ) irraticly, after cleaning the thick carbon from and around the throttle plate all was great

make sure the crank and flywheel sensor are connected correctly and tight.
