What are these 'holes' for?

Please pardon my ignorance but what are these holes for? I think the one in the head is used with the standard air box.
    should they be plugged?

I just bought the car and the engine is getting stripped and rebuilt anyway, just curious.

    Any helf appreciated

    Cheers!

cam breather needs pipe and small filter if not the origonal air filter other wise oil comes out

Oil breather...eithr plumb a oil catch tank to it, or a pipe with a filter on the end. Alternativley plumb it into your air intake on your airbox etc but this will lower the octane of the fuel in the combustion chamber

The one in the head looks like a core plug....a sort of weak point so if the water in the head freezes and expands in cold weather,it pushes out the core plug instead of cracking the head.

just leave the one in the head alone - get an oil breather pipe on the cam cover hole - sorted.

Cheers, just read up a bit more and will probably end up with a catch tank once the engine is rebuilt.

    Thanks alot.
