Could be the engine seized? Ie has overheated alot. Best thing to do really is take the cylinder head of i think.
Have you checked battery, petrol in the tank, etc etc?

What happens when you turn the ignition exactly? If its a mechanical problem and the engines locked youll of heard the starter straining (if so dont turn it over again). If its just a simple loud click youll have a dead battery. what were the circumstances of the car ceasing to work?

its my next door neighbours car, he brought it home one night and the next morning the car didnt start...

basically i go to turn it over and its just a big click as if it goes to turn but is seized

the click is typical of a solenoid gone. Did you replace the starter with a reconditioned one or got one from a scrappy?

Temporary fix is to tap the starter motor with a hammer to get it started but you may need a new battery/or starter motor.check the charge in the battery 1st though as it may just be a knackered battery.

The click is the solenoid working - it switches the high current needed by the starter motor like a relay for example. Put car in gear and try to move it forwards, it should move in 2nd gear in a jerky sort of way due to compression. If it will ot move themn the engine may well be seized.

As it is clicking it meansd the low current side is working okyy so look at (as already mentioned above) battery, cables to and from starter motor and earths. A bad connection will restrict current enough to effectively disable to starter motor from working.
