The rocker cover seal is often the biggest culprit for oil leaks don`t forget oil can be blown anywhere around the engine.

Just above the alternator is the infamous TU head gasket leak. Keep an eye on it, but if you're rapidly loosing oil from there have the gasket done.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but my car is burning oil...

It has gone through 5 litres in a month. Anyone know what this is/how to fix this?

    Thanks.

    Burning now?
If 5 litres had been just burnt it would be very bad, i assume its a leak?

I had this mate. Looked like it was coming frombehind the alternator. If you remove your cambelt cover you will notice it coming from the bottom of the head. The oil and water doesnt mix and no loss of power but its the headgasket. Its a bad design by citroen and happens alot on the tu engines. Ive just sent my head off for skiming. If it was burning the oil you will notice smoke.

That's my point, 5 litres is ALOT to be burning, are you 100% it's not leaking?

There is no leaks at all coming from the car that I can see :/

    I do about 300 miles a week so 1200 miles a month.

First ones headgasket if the oil starts from the top of the block and the bottom of the head, and there isnt any around the rocker cover. Its possible it could be the camshaft seal, but the headgaskets as said are prone to go in that corner as theres a large oil feed there.

The second one is either piston rings or valve stem seals, if your drinking 5l in that time period the engine wont be in great condition internally. It'll be much cheaper and easier to fit a new lower mileage engine than to fix your current lump.

i have a vtr engine you can have cheap, its on 80k miles so its not exactly low mileage but it didnt burn oil before i took it out, only want like £50 as its taking up space

Is it the phase 1 or 2 engine as I need a new one myself..
