steering heavy and battery light on at 3000 revs

   hi
   i was wondering if anyone could help i was driving down the motorway the other day and the wee orange light with what looks like a skidding car came on then the air bag light then battery light then the stero went on and off all these lights apart from the battery light have now gone off but when i drop below 3000 revs i seem to be losing my power steering, and the battery light comes bk on. does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong im thinkng the altonator or power steering pump but thats really a guess.
   
   Any help would be much apprichiated

   well i reckon something is wrong with the alternator...
   
   not long back the pulley came off mine, and the battery light came up, and i lost power steerings...
   
   possibly the alternator not making enough current and charge to power the powersteering pump causing it to disapear and then causing the light to come on.
   
   bought a 2nd hand alternator for £21 on ebay...

   i would have said altinator, but does it still run fine when your stopped say at a roundabout or something? But it wont be your power steering pump because that wouldnt put all your lights on

   that sounds exact same my pully came off about a month ago got that sorted and now this so you recon i should go for a new altonator

   aye is still running fine starts first time and that noticed light dipping a bit tonight though

   if you pulley came of, prior to it completely coming off i mate have stipped the thread, and caused the spindle to become slightly smaller which would allow the spindle to spin inside the pulley.
   
   personally yes, thats what id do. and there quite simple to fit to...

   i dont think it will be the altinator then because you would be using your battery life when your driving and wouldnt have anything to charge it back up so unless you have a reely good battery it wouldnt start very well. how long has it been happening?

   oh no hope its not major just started happening on monday after id been driving for about hour and half its only the battery light on now and the power steering goes when i drop below 3000 revs is wierd like

    i drove about 60 miles with the battery light on, started fine every time i started it...
    
    so still sounds like its charging above 3k.

    u can try it like but i realy dont think it will be a altinator problem because you say it still starts fine. but a hope am wrong and you get it sorted lol

    yep and straight bk on as soon as drop below 3k and power steering goes

    alternator...
    
    99% sure of it.
    
    its not charging under 3k, so not enough power, which is why the power steering cuts out.
    
    after 3k the charge is back, and the power steering comes back to life.

    try the altinator if this lads had the problem before, if you had of posted this 2 days ago i had a saxo altinator sitting in my garage you could of had lol.

    this is my second and last saxo shes getting sold as soon as tax just nearly skint me lol
