running carbs on my 1.1..

  1. #1
after finding an old thread someone says that the 1.1 spi engines will run either a Solex twin carb from the AX GT or 205 1.4 xsi does anyone know how easy this would be to set up? and what i would have to do? the bit that is confusing me is my car has an injector, if i want to run it with carbs whats going to tell the ecu to send the signal to the coil pack to make the spark plugs spark? or do i just unplug it and leave it becase it will still spark from using the crank position sensor?
    sorry for the essay.

    thanks

Mate, don't waste your time, you will likey only see a small increase in power and a bigger increase in fuel consumption. Now if you were putting in an xs or GT engine (I have owned both these cars before and loved them btw!) I would say go for it, the ignition would take care of itself but you would need to remove the cat because they are not designed for carbs (carburettor can not monitor fuel efficiently enough and would kill it in no time). This brings us to the MOT question which you would of course fail. There are more things than meet the eye to this really mate. Maybe you could buy an old AX GT?

    Carb will not pass MOT.

Save your money as unless you throw a load of money at a 1.1 you'll never get much extra power from it!
