Exhaust query

On my gf's 206 she has a leak in the exhaust. The leak comes from the joint of the cat to the centre section. It looks like I need to just push the two sections together but when I undo the u clamp
I can't seem to push the two parts togethr enough. Is there a technique to try, I don't want to hit the exhaust to hard
from the end as I don't want to damage it. I had also thought about using an exhaust bandage

what engine 206 is it? on my saxo the mid section has about 6in of extra pipe that goes from the mid section into the cat section, so that extra pipe has to slide right through into the cat section before the end of the cat section will join with it, if you know what i mean. this extra pipe might have rusted and gotten stuck in the cat

search the internet for parts so you can see for yourself, my saxo is a 1.6 im guessing that most 206 exhausts will be very similar

It's a 1.9d I can see that the pipe needs to push on about an inch to make a seal it just doesn't want to budge on. Could I grease the exhaust to help it slip on

does it feel like its catching on anything inside the cat? is it free to move in and out of the cat section or is it solid? if its solid try pasting it up, that should sort it for now. if its loose pull it out and have a look at the pipe, it may be too long for the cat section and actually touching the cat itself, or it may just be rust which will need scraping out or sanding off before refitting

The pipe is free and not catching. I think I may jack up the car and take the rubbers off the exhaust lube it up and give it a good shove

slide it out of the cat and have a look at it, if its not too long just clean it with a wire brush and it should go in, you shouldnt have to grease it. if mid section is too long saw a bit off it
