Pulling to the right!!!!!

  1. #1
When im driving down a straight road and let go of the steering wheel, the car tracks right, quite hard. I have to hold the steering wheel to the left just to go in a straight line. Had the offside wheel bearing changed recently and started after that, been to a different garage and been told its the tyres.
Had the tyres changed today and still doing it.

Ive noticed they put the wheels on differently, the front on the back and the back on the front, could this make a difference?

Do i need to get the other wheel bearing done to stop it or is it just a tracking problem. Or something i havnt got a clue about?

    Thanks for any help

    Chris

they may have put the wheels on so the tread pattern is flowing the right wayi.e to the front, your car probably needs retracking, did they change a track rod end?and not retrack the car as this would cause your car to pull to one side.

When i went to the garage he said it wasnt the tracking that needed doing, it was the tyres, so he switched the front two around so it sat in the middle but pulled a bit to the left rather then a lot to the right!

Most of the time it is down to different tyre pressures on the front but I assume you have checked that. A new wheel bearing would not cause this to happen so rule that out also. This leaves, as mentioned, tracking. I would also be looking at the bottom arms bushes and ball joint for wear.

++Also make sure that the garage used the right mouting holes for the suspension strut++ when they replaced it. Open bonnet and look on each side of the bay, you will see the suspension turrets, 4 holes in each with 3 nuts holding strut top.

Cars with power steering use the mounts that allow the strut to be mounted further back and cars without power steering use the mounts that sit the strut in a more more upright psition for less castor (= lighter steering but not as sporty handling).

ok bud, thanks for all that, will get the tracking done soon and go one from there, more then likely to here from me again

Tracking is the best option as your car would veer off without this being normal..

    Hope this helps bro

    bent chassis? portapower time maybe

that sounds like it needs re tracking

Will get the tracking done asap.

Another question, realised as i got in the car tonight that the lights behind the dash have gone, behind heater controls and speedo, fuse or something else?

Got a back light out aswell, could have caused it when it blew???

    Thanks for the pointers boys!

Have you checked strut top mounting yet fella - no point tracking it up unless your struts are both mounted in th ecorrect PAS position.

ive had new tyres and the tracking done and it feels alright below 40mph. Any faster and its just as bad as before.

ive been told the saxo brake discs are prone to warping, possibly the problem??

also been told it could be the handbrake cable??

    cheers

I now have a similar problem, I've just had 2 new tyres fitted on the front and tracking done and now the car is pulling to the right, also when they did the tracking my steering wheel is now out of line, but the amount the car pulls to the right is about the amount the steering wheel is out. Anyone any ideas?

Car had a cv boot a couple of weeks ago but it was ok after that, it all started after it had 2 new tyres on the front and tracking done, then it was pulling to the right.

You pretty much answered your own problem mate. Take it to a proper garage not the crappy shitty local ones that dont know anything or are half assed..

Right I've now taken it to a proper garage and had 4 wheel laser alignment and it's still pulling to the right, they said the tracking was out a bit, but now its all aligned properly the car still pulls to the right the same amount as before! Does anyone have any ideas as this is really pi55ing me off now??

Whats it like when you brake?Does it pull to 1 side? I`m thinking (long shot)that you`ve got a brake caliper sticking on 1 side.Or a damaged steering rack.

I've tested you theory but no the car is straight when braking.

I've just noticed my car pulling right when i centre the steering wheel, so had a close look at the wheels...seems like the passenger side wheels are absolutely fine and line up perfectly but the driver side is a different story...looks a bit like this (birds eye view)
    |---/ this is exagerrated but hopefully you get the idea!
Also my rear right seems to lean in slightly (looking from behind) |---\
Any ideas what it could be guys??

when they did the wheel bearing they would of removed the hub from the track rod arm which could knock the tracking out slightly so id get it checked out you'll probably find it will be that
