A lot of people have been asking me how I got on with my Xantia discs 283mm Part No. SG2690 from http://www.buypartsby.co.uk (I had to ring them as they were not on their website) Well after a bit of trouble with my MC its all fitted, and touch wood so far done about 50miles and no squeel!

    Standard GTi Brakes

they do it on the 406 coupe!
    At least mine does

its something to do with the width of the discs, think most are a certain width u the aboves are slightly diff causing it not to squeel

i think people are getting a little confused when you fit 406 brakes to a saxo, the 406 discs physically wont fit, its the 206 gti 180 discs that people use which squeak, as said its the xantia discs that dont squeal, also apparently you can get 283mm discs off a 405 ?? that don't squeal

Awesome stuff Jak, seems like I've been waiting ages for someone to actually confirm all the stuff being bantered around on which disc to use & not use etc etc, its great to see these calipers fitted and tested finally!

I can see buypartby seeing a few more order for these disc's

Just a side note could you confirm which pads you went for & how they perform over standard brake's?

Many thanks for the PM updates also

PS:This thread gets my vote to replace the outdated sticky ref Brembo calipers & disc combo

i dont think there is anything wrong with the old stickey, it tells you which discs to use to stop the squeal, and all the other info is good

The part no listed on that thread is wrong...

There is a pic on this one, maybe merging them somehow is a better step forward...

I have just used standard 406 pads, definatly an improvement in braking and I think they are still bedding in worth the money! Also I used an eezi bleed kit to bleed the system got it done really quickly great piece of kit!!

Standard pads as in 'not dealer' & Mintex or somthing?

Made a mental note to bleed them with the Eezi bleed kit

    Cheers

Not 100% on that one, I was told when I bought them they we're just standard 40f pads so I assume they are the ones supplied by the dealer, but what they are I have no idea!

perfect timing with this mate, ive just ordered some 283mm xantia discs to go with mine so its good to know they work
  18. #18

Ordered my disc's & Mintex pads (MDB1882) from buycarpartsby now

I'll try and get some pics of the difference between 244mm disc's & 283mm disc's

Jak do you have the 15" TD Pro 1.2's? I'm trying to figure out whether or not its worth spending £110 on hubcentric spacers or get a set of alloys that will fit over the calipers...

Ye ther 15's literally a few mm between the wheels and the caliper! I think it depends on the spokes around the caliper rather than the size of the wheel I did read somwher wher somone couldn't get ther 17's over the caliper!

not trying to burst anyones bubble here, but my brembo's didnt start squeeling til about 1000miles of using them. I was well happy for just over a week lol, then the skreeching came....
  23. #23
Almost 2k on mine - pads bedded in fully. No squeal. But then I'm using 405 discs, not xantia discs.

(For the record, the 405 discs i run are the same as 306 gti-6 discs)
  24. #24
just to let everyone know, my cars been in the garage today so whilst it was there i asked them to put some copper grease on the pads, and on the drive back - no squeeling... have to see how long its lasts though.

the site always asks for a reg to find you parts.. what reg did you use to buy the pads with? shall i just find a 406 coupe on ebay and use the reg off that?
  32. #32
    get them from here: http://www.brakesint.co.uk/

    no reg required.

brakes and pads came today... next day delivery!!! ast only one thing, im sure when i fitted my calipers before the pads never had these wires coming out ot them.. have i bought the wrong ones? or can i just snip the wire off??
  34. #34
Those cables are wear indicators, my OE mintex pads have them as well, iirc they can be sniped
