The Car: 1.1 1997
Background Info: Had the fuel tank off to do some welding, fuel tank went back on, car started cutting out when cornering. Changed the fuel pump for a second hand one from a breaker on ebay with good feedback, who sells lots of saxo pumps. Car was fine for 3 days with new pump.
The problem: Car now cuts out when accelerating both gentally and hard, does it at all speeds in all gears, also does it when slowing down.
Car restarts if i turn the ignition off and back on again.
The only difference between it working fine and now is that i filled the fuel tank to the top today and then it started.
There is a little plastic 'thing' from the fuel tank (sorry I dont know what it is) but i was wondering if it was a breather that i may have fitted backwards(?) and now the fuel tank is fuel there is no air in the tank causing the car to cut out, dont know why it would be ok after turning ignition off and on again.
When the car cuts out it doesnt come back to life by bumping it, i have to turn the key to off and then back on again...
Anyone got any ideas? When the car is running its really smooth and runs well, no idling issues either. The engine management light (if it has one) hasnt come on, would a diagnostic check show anything up even though there is no indicator light on?
