My saxo has not got a spare wheel, or has it got the cage that holds it, so just wondering if by law you must have one
Is a spare wheel a must,

#2Not required by law, some new sporty hatched don't come with them as standard to back this up. Carry a bottle of the tyre weld stuff in an aerosol can in cas eyou get a flatty far from home (reach of mates who will rescue you anyway).
-
#3Not required by law, but if you have one it has to have legal tread.
-
#4BTW if you dont have one you will have to remove the cage
As by law the cage needs to contain the spare
without it, it would FAIL an MOT -
#6I've heard otherwise
-
#8The condition of the spare tyre is not part of the MOT.
-
#11Correct. Having no spare wheel is completely different to having a bald spare wheelQuote:That is not true, as the last time mine had an MOT it had no spare wheel in it, and it still passed.
bald spare wheel = fail
no spare wheel atall = pass (providing other 4 wheels are fine) -
#12Quote:yes it is
bald = fail
the same principal applies with all wheels
"Note:
The condition of the spare tyre is not part of the MOT.....An externally fitted spare wheel or spare wheel carrier must not be so insecure that it is likely to fall off."
Seems a reliable source from MOTRules & Regs wesbite.

Also says this in the thread at the top of this forum. -
#13i think the issue here may be incosistency of the testers, most testers dont know every single thing tbh from my experience and therefore there is a variation of testers abilities
my dad owns an mot station, ill have a look in the vosa handbook (the bible for mot testers) at work and get the official guidelines when im next at home
garry
ps i cannot remember ever seeing my dad or one of his other testers testing the tread depth of spare wheels. At the end of the day providing the four mains tyres are legal then the car is safe to drive, surely that is what an mot test is for -
#14I'am an mot test and the rule are
cage on its own with no spare must be secure if loose then would fail
cage with spare with a legal or bald tyre does not matter and will pass2 users thanked this post: , -
#15your a bit of an idiot if you dont carry a spare wheel though mate, cause if you get a puncture your fucked lol!
-
#16as said a both lot of new cars dont have them so be no different to alot of people out there and hes only asking anyway
-
#17Yeah I was just asking as MOT time is almost here. And want it pass first time.. Thanks you guys I will leave it like this untill MOT has come and gone
-
#19a LOT of people dont carry the cage or wheel cos of the weight..
I personally wouldnt like to be caught short should some glass or anything appear! -
#20yeah its not required by law but its there for a reason
-
#21keep it in there mate just in case
