wheel bearing/shock problem

  1. #1
recently had a new wheel bearing fitted but when it was getting fitted there was some confusion with the bearing because the 1997 bearing didnt seem to fit, ended up guessing the shocks had been replaced with newer ones from a 2000 saxo because the wheel bearing for them did fit.

One week later after its been fine the bearing has gone again, so took the hub of and looks like the bearing has somehow loose? and if just noticed the shocks have pugeot wrote on them?

can anyone give me any info on knowing what the shock/hub is from?

Also is there any differance in vtr and vts shocks? in case i want to sorce one from a scrap yard?

    thanks,
    Joe

my car has the exact same setup as yours, early model car, late model strut and bearing, mine are also from a scrappy and say 'pug' on them in yellow. ive had 2 bearings go within the last couple of months, and im pretty sure its to do with our cars using early model driveshafts with late model bearings, as im sure that the later model offers better support for the bearing in the hub as it is tapered.

usefully for me the driveshaft is on its way out so needs replacing anyway. the only way for you to fix it is to get some later model 'tapered seat' driveshafts (search on here for pics of the differences) from 2000 - models and fit them to yours, good luck

ps the shocks and struts are identical, apart from, i think, the bearing dimensions
