  1. #1
im thinking about stripping the rear of my saxo because i never have anyone in the back. i was just wondering what should i strip out? i know obviously the seats, but i dont want it too look hugly bear. also do i have to tell my insurance company?

    thanks

intheory you need to tell teh insurance company.

other than seats, parcel shelf and carpets...thers nothing else to strip.
    rear cards and boot trim.

I wouldn't bother stripping the rear unless you are stripping the whole car or getting a cage. The rear weights nothing. I mean nothing. Seats are just foam.
  4. #4
I wouldn't have thought you would need to tell the insurance as you are only taking standard stuff out and not putting anything in
  5. #5
ok, if it does weigh nothing i wont bother, i just assumed they weighed a bit cos my mates corsa seats did, and yh i dont know how to make the front look nice if im going to strip it, well i do i just dont know what to do with the door cards

unless you have a reason to strip it down, Track project/ Ice setup etc I would bother with the hassle bud.

Second you strip it down you'll have passengers

I Wouldn't tell your insurers because they will probably try and rape you for doing so lol. And like 1-1dicky said it does weigh naff all. I took it all out to fit my sound system and me and my mates were ballancing it on one hand to see who could do it for the longest. The record was 2mins ish. Its light as! And i know it isnt really the point but if anyone looks into your car just passing by it looks pretty minging and random lmao

it does ask how many seats u have in you car. But not sure if id bother tellin them

i had mine stripped out and loved it- you notice the differance when you put everything back in lol- but i found the back end of my car wanted to step out quiete abit round corners as the was no weight there if that make sense lol
  11. #11
It changes the amount of seats you have in the car, and so by that measure how many passengers you can have.

It also falls under the bracket of interior changes, and so yeah, technically you should declare it.

As said above, there's no real point unless you're taking out absolutely everything.

LOL, My bad! I Ment to credit you with the statement

pretty much been said above with no intention of going further with it, i wouldn't bother.
be nice to see an original ice install done in the back of the car without the seats, doesnt get done alot unless people are going for massive bass

tbh mate i wouldnt bother, i stripped out mine for about 2 hours and then put it all back in as its bloody noisy, and pointless on a road car and plus it doesn't make any difference on performance and in a 1.1 doesnt look at all right
  15. #15
stripped all mine out becuase when i got it the parcel shelf was cut for speakers, seats were a bout torn and damaged and it had no boot carpet. ive got to admit i thought the stuff i took out actually weighed a fair bit altogether. saying that ive took carpets out ect too
  16. #16
Im shure it weighs a considerable amount as the suspension will rise at the rear when stripped. Also you can get crazy taking out extra things like the carpet and front door cards, a b c pillar covers and headlining if you want to do it for extra speed.

tbh your looking at only loosing around 50kg max not worth the bother on a road car tbh
  18. #18
50kg is a fair amount on a car weighing around 850kg
  19. #19
but is it really worth doing if you are using the car on the road, as i presume you are, as you loose the sound system, comfort and practicality, as at the end you are left with a noisy tin can but its up to you at the end of the day

See your point. Everyone has a preference. This is my fun drive car, if i get completely fed up i will just by a budget run about

rear seats, shelf (inc 2x speakers), boot carpet, sound deadening and spare wheel removed 42kg from mine.

However, the increase in noise made it pointless for anything other than a track day. I really would go as far to say it's far too frustrating as a commuter car.

And yes, you would have to tell your insurance company.
  22. #22
I wouldn't of thought he would remove speakers if he is keeping the front. Or sound deadening if he is not removing the front
  23. #23
You'd still have front speakers, and as for sound deadening I was referring to the matting under the boot carpet.

Ive done the Ice install with no back seats and got bored and deaf after only about 6 months...

I say just strip it and see if you like it! The rear seatbelt mechanism weighs a fair amount by itself! also the rear sound proofing on the rear wheel arches weighed quite a bit all off on mine

i dont find it that bad stripped, got a vts had to strip to to fit a engine crane in the car including passenger seat, did a round trip of 120 miles didnt think it was bad, my vts has standerd exhaust which isnt noisy and a cheap air ass air filter its only loud on full throttle, what the fk do yous all drive sofas with ear muffs

There's no point in strippin the rear tbh mate..if you are doin, you should make the most of it and stick a roll cage in there

Adamski, you don't really feel that 50kg on the road. You just end up with a car that wont stop hard without the back end kicking out and same with the cornering. Of cause this is not the case with a decent spec fast-road ("trackday") car.

bias valve ftw. That is also on my list
