T2 turbo oil drain

  1. #1
hi all. doese anyone know if the T2 turbo oil drain pipe has any pressur behind it or doese the oil literally just drain out into the sump?

since i have fitted a new oil drain pipe it keeps popping of after a couple of weeks i jubilee it on as tight as i can without breaking anything but it still wont stay on...

its just a drain really, maybe its the crank case pressure popping it off. Have you tried flaring the fitting on the sump a bit? Try knocking a socket down it.

its not poping off the sump side its poping off the turbo side...

It shouldnt have any pressure (as such) in the oil line, unbless there is a restriction into the sump?

OD you have a photo of the type of drain you are using? is it a threaded hose tail into the turbo, then youve clamped onto the hose tail or is it a flanged connection on the turbo?

i know it never used to do this so dont no why its started now. heres a pic of my turbo and sump you can see both connections

this is a pic of the pipe i use to connect the turbo oil drain to the sump. it connects to the sump and turbo with jubilee clips. now the side that clips on to the turbo has split so i have changed it for a thicker silicone hose that is made to carry oil. but since i have changed the hose it heeps popping off

It looks like both the turbo and sump tails are not ridged/flared, so this is always going to be a possible issue. I've had similar issues with oil pipes in the past, as when the rubber heats up there is a tendancy to shift. Lubrication of the oil wont help. Silicone hoses are worse for this from experience too.

I'd only use this setup if you have very tight fitting hose (ie, warm it up to get it onto the pipe then clamp in place).

If you are able to weld, I'd run a few drizzles of weld onto both hose tails to give yourself some ridges to clamp over. Thats what Ive dont in the past with loose/troublesome hoses.

A turbo oil drain is one of the most important hoses and you dont want to be worrying about it falling off.

I'd make some small mod's to it if I were you...

ok cheers mate just wasnt sure if it was a big problem as i didnt think their should be any pressure. a friend of mine doese custom exhaists so ill get him to weild a lip on it or a few spots. last time it came off i sprayed a load of degreaces in the pip and in the silicone hose let it dre then put it on for more grip but if it comes of one more time ill get it weilded :Y:
