Bilstein B8's VS Group N's

  1. #1
I'm looking at these two variations, but are then any major differences? I no the group N's are more expensive so are probabaly 'better' , but is it worth the extra money? Espceially seeing as I can get a set of B8's at quite a good price.

Also with the faulkner 155lb springs, is it essential you get uprated top mounts? Or will the oe ones suffice?

    Cheers

the grp Ns have stiffer damping and they are thicker due to having a larger oil capacity. Helps them run cooler when the suspension is being worked hard

ive got the group N setup with 155lb springs and pugsport top mounts, and cannot fault them at all, i got mine for a good price though, think the uprated mounts are not nessesary, but would be better to have them. same as its better to change engine mounts and suspension bushes

Are 155s a bit too soft for the group N's?
  5. #5
i dont find them too be, obv as you increase the lb'age they will be stiffer, but under hard cornering on B roads ive found them to be solid on T-1R's. might be a different story with semi slicks on track though

I've read somwhere that they 155lb faulkners were too soft for the group n's as well rushy, but i'm no expert

Cheers for the input anyway lads, and with some much appreciated help from willsy i've gone for the B8's with the 155lb springs. Got them at a very good price and will be spot on for what i want to use them for (hopefully) lol

good i'll look forward to fitting them then!

The Group N's were fitted as a standard fitment on the saxo bilstein sprintline suspension kits and that had softer springs

I bought the Sprintline kit years ago and it came with B8s and Ventura springs dude. I assume these are the softer springs you are refering to.

However definitely not Group N dampers packaged in my kit.

I've seen people using Grp N billies with Eibach springs which I'm pretty sure are the same spring rate as standard springs?
  16. #16
But then a lot of people dont really know what good suspension feels like
  17. #17
Well i can always change if they are abit soft eh. Cheers anyways rushy

then you got sent the peugeot 106 one - they were different...

Ahh I see. Why would they contain different parts in the same named kit! Strange stuff.
  20. #20
Considering the cars are virtually identical I never understood it and try getting an answer from Bilstein... With the 106 running the bigger antirollbar I would have expected it to be the other way round

I had B8 Sprintlines which i believe are the Group N spec shocks with -60mm Spax SSX springs, it was rock hard and was very enjoyable to drive..

  23. #23
Sprintline was just the name of the kit.
  24. #24
a sprintline kit consisted of a set of sprint dampers (shorter and uprated) and a set of ventura springs...

imo you want Grp N's all round inc. top mounts and custom 180lb faulkners..... bang on in my car
little bumpy on shit roads, guess i just like to feel as much as possible through peddles and steering wheel.
highly reccomeneded setup for handling and driver feedback
