Will they settle in time??

  1. #1
Yesterday finished off fitting apex 50mm springs with bilstein shocks. Before these i had on just 40mm lowering springs on my standard shocks but these looked lower than my new setup . Is it posible that they will gradually settle down/ get lower in time ?

    What bilstein shocks you using?

yes all springs take time to settle.

when i had my corsa lowerd 40mm it looked higher than standard at first and i was abit gutted then i woke up the next day and it had gone down a bit.
when i took it for a long drive i got out after and it had droped some more .

that was apex springs but i asume all springs are simular

apex springs don't seem to lower as much as some others that quote the same drop.

It is springs for a furio and not a vts or something?
They will settle a bit anyways!

Yeah i made sure they were correct springs and everything, think maybe because there like really hard springs they dont compress as much giving the same amount of drop, ill probs end up changin them in next month or so if they dont drop alot more.

They do drop alot over time, mine have Are they the Apex -50mm ones off Kam Racing? If so then they didn't seem too low at the time but you will notice the difference after a few weeks

I will get pictures of how much mine have dropped since I got them fitted tomorrow if you like..

Also depends upon how low the rear is too
  11. #11
Im not sure what rear is done by, when is sent it for lowering told them 2 match front and back but back was lower thats why changed springs and now dissappointed the back sits just on top of the tyre got 195/45/15's on if it makes any difference???

Mine settled quite abit. Bounce on the front abit and take it on a drive it will soon settle.

dont want to worry you at all but i dont think the black bilstein shocks are meant for lowering springs, if they are black it means they probably are the B4's which are made to oem spec therefore they aren't shorter than standard dampers which means they will wear out quicker, i was going to buy these shocks but kam told me to go for the apex dampers (which are more expensive but worth it) as they are shorter than oem length therefore suited to lowering springs, im not sure if this will affect how low the springs go but i dont think the shocks will last too long

If i am wrong then someone is more than welcome to correct me

You are correct the black biltsteins are indeed standard equipment spec dampers.
  15. #15
OOPsy lol heres me thinkin im gettin an awesome setup and there just standard haha, like you said though shouldnt really affect the lowering of the springs, its effectively like havin them on standard shocks then ??
  16. #16
yea, basically the only reason why standard dampers are crap for lowering springs is because the spring obviously is shorter that the standard springs so the damper is always compressed 60mm if you have 60mm springs and as they are already compressed they will bottom out easy (i smacked my front bumper on the floor with 60mm springs and oem dampers when driving spiritedly on some back roads), so for lowering springs you need dampers that are shorter than oem ones so when you fit the springs the damper isn't compressed (as much) therefore wont bottom out or wear out like oem spec ones

were the bilstein's new or second hand? at the end of the day they probably would be better than standard dampers but yea they will wear out quicker than shorter dampers also will bottom out on bumpy roads

oh joy roads round here are terrble so ill look forward 2 bottoming out everywhere lol, The whole setup was brand new so ill just see how long i manage with these then change 2 shorter shocks eventually.

should have done a little more research well at you least you've learnt something, i almost did the same thing because the price was very attractive for a set of 'bilsteins' lol

V true dont learn unless we make mistakes lol
