Borbet A's

  1. #1
Hey im looking to get Borbet A's but i was wondering with the 9.0 rears would they be illegal as they poke out more then the side arche?
  2. #2
Anything that protrudes from the arch is illegal.

Whether your local friendly MOT and policeman pick up on it is entirely yours to risk.

wrong, the tread of the tyre has to sit inside the arch to be legal,

moters/police probably won't say much about abit of poke but if its ott then i'm sure police will have something to say

will the police just warn you to take them off or take the car of the road because they might class it as not road worthy? thanks guys
  6. #6
I think you just get a fine and a producer
  7. #7
all down to how much of a d1ck the cop is tbh, they could maybe even fine you if the cop was that bad

Unless the law has changed since I was an MOT tester, then that's total bollocks. A rotating wheel sticking out (massive exageration coming...) 6 inches from the arch and not covered by nice soft rubber?

Best bet is to go to your tester and ask him/her to get a definitive answer.

i have a really good mate whos a traffic officier and hes really into his dubs and hes looked into it and told me the law

    That would be the exageration....
My point is that a protrusion is a protrusion regardless of how far it is. Any rotating part that can come into contact with a pedestrian is a definate no no
  14. #14
well you might want to look up on 'your' laws again
  15. #15
I guess we'll agree to disagree.
  16. #16
nicole could you post me some pics on PM of the wheels

ive seen it on a police forum, about this, the tyre must be within the arch, hence why people roll their arches to fit wider wheels, but the policeman will decide if the rim itself is as danger....
  19. #19
its why people run stretch tyres so the tread is inside the arch
  20. #20
ive always thought its just the tyre that has to be within the arch, hence why people stretch tyres

it is, the arch has to cover the tread
  22. #22
yea ive heard only the tread has to be in the arch, otherwise a lot of people on the euro scene would be driving illegal cars

    wrong.
you are allowed up to 20mm of poke!

also the tread needs to be kept inside the arch or under 5mm!

your allowed 30mm of the tyre, not the tread. therefore you have to run stretch tires to keep the tread under the arch?
but by stretching a tire your revealing the outer rim of the wheel. thats the bit thats illegal, bare rim sticking out.

basiclly your allowed 30mm of tire but no rim. making it impossible to run poke legally. its up to how much of a tw*t the copper is.
