6 X 9's in front doors

  1. #1
hi at the moment i have 16.5cm alpine s speakers in the front, 6 x 9 alpine s speakers in the shelf and a 12 inch fli active 1000watt sub, sounds quite good but i want it louder,
was thinking about trying to fit 6 x 9's into the front doors, (or bigger speaker in general) how hard is it to do this, is it a D I Y job or not, managed to respray my alloys a few months ago and they look better then new, so i think i am kinda handy lol any help would be great !

its definitely not a straight forward job and IMO i dont think you should have 6x9's anywhere in a car

i got rid of my 6x9's out of my parcel shelf as 6x9 are coaxial speakers and they just mush the sound together, and i fitted components in the front doors and its just as loud (even though technically ive got 2 less speakers), but its also better quality as it separates the sound, ive got coaxials in the back (coaxials arent great as ive just mentioned about 6x9's but are better than the oem ones) then ive got all 4 speakers amp'd up with a jbl sub and amp and that loud enough

yer i have 6x9's and they do mash all the sound together, i got a better quality sound from the origonal speakers and a sub

imo 6x9 are a waste of money m8 get a decent set of comps with tweeters a sub or two and a good amp and dynamat is defo your best friend if you want a good quality sound

6x9 in the front hahahaha their crap in the back so why would you what to put them in the front and spend all tha money making pods etc to hold them in place just get some comp's and amp them and use your 6x9 as either paper weights or door stops

Everyone is being a bit harsh here lol..

6x9's are great for volume but thats it period! some 17cm components with the tweeters mounted up fairly high should do the trick but they really need to be amped to sound loud/good!

I have 3 pairs of 17cm Components in my car with no 6x9's in sight as they ruin music.

Only setup ive ever heard with 6x9's that sounded any good was running pioneer emotion series 6x9's off of a Genesis amp, not overly cheap or expensive but didnt sound messy like normal!

Buy my front door cards and then you can have 2 pairs of front speakers 17cm

5" speakers or 6.5's would be quite good? or go for square?
  8. #8
oem size is 5.25" so id stick to that tbh less hassle

ice experts will tell you if your running a sub you don't need 6x9's

well set up sub and good componants all amped are all you need

what is that dynamat stuff? and what does it do and where can you get it from?
  11. #11
dynamat you stick it behind your speakers and any bits that normally rattle with the bass and it stiffens the metal up and stops the horrible rattling

my mates got vibe 6x9 squares in his back shelf and mk1 standard speakers up front
id say its a good sound but ive never heard a saxo with components all round so cant say whats better

cheers for the info mate how much os this stuff? and would u just put it behind speakers or where the subs are aswell?
  13. #13
just turn your sounds up and whatever bits rattle then stick this stuff on it and itll stop the ratteling
