Ecu swap?

  1. #1
Ive found a scrap Saxo with a low miles engine in it but I cant get it started because the keypad code is unknown. If I take the ECU [unlocked] out of my own car and plug it in the scrapper should it run ok?

edit: not sure if this keypad is linked to interior blaock box/imobiliser so possibly not

does anyone know if it will lock up my ECU if I try it?

You will have to remove the black box/immob box from behind the dash first then remove your ECU, then do the same with the scrap car, keep the Immob box out then put your ECU in and leave the immob box out,

think thats how you would do it, it depends if your car has a Keypad.

I think the immob module is underneath the ECU on the MK1's and mine is identical but mine is unlocked anyhow so it doesnt matter with mine?

The back box underneath the ECU is a relay, nothing to do with the imob.

You say your current ECU is unlocked, so all you would have to do on this srap car engine is unplug the ECU, imob box and the keypad plug your ECU in and it will start.

with the keypad immobiliser the immobiliser is actually in the keypad and not up behind the dash.

If you want to unlock an ECU in a car that has a keypad immobiliser.

    Start the car.
    Unplug the keypad immobiliser
    Turn off car
Start car and make sure it starts.

Dont put an ECU unlocked in this method into another vehicle that still has an immobiliser attached because it will lock the ECU!

What if you disconnect the keypad then try your ECU?
