Gearbox whine

To keep it simple, my box is whining a little bit on 3rd gear but very obvious in 4th and 5th gears. However, it is perfect in 1st, 2nd and have no trouble changing gears or crunches. The box is also leaking, im assuming its leaking from the driveshaft. I had no idea it was the drive shaft and so it has probably been running for about 100 miles with very little oil inside hence the whining sounds.

Am i right in thinking what was once a cheap problem has turned out to be a expensive one?..

If your lucky, then fill it up and all may return to normal. If not then if the whining continues the gears have been worn. If there isn't a difference in the changes or the feel of the gears then you have probably got off ok.

Depends how much damage has been done mate, fingers crossed!

I posted this whining noise 2 months ago and all the response i got was "new gearbox time mate". So i assumed fuck it, ill rag my box to death but just realised it it could be dodgy driveshaft sealss,,,,,

high biting point = simply adjust your clutch
what do you mean "my gearbox is very light"?

Gibbo how bad is ur whining noise? does it happen to all the gears? do u have any crunches in any gears or trouble selecting gears?
