What rear struts do you believe this would brace?
  3. #3
I remember a brace that bolted between the two rear seatbelt mountings? This could be it.. i dunno.

Them torsion bars can be a bit flimsy though.
    Lol
if u find someone who will make u one please ensure you have a good thickness spreader plate welded in if u intend to mount a harness to it

as above wat struts are you gona use. its torsion bar rear suspension.

i think he knows its a torsion bar setup, love the helpfullnes of this site....

Andy-K is running some sort or rear brace iirc, have a look at his thread its at the top of photos/progess secon atm, if thats what your after then drop him a pm

i usually weld in a bar by the rear seat belt mounts just to reduce chassis flex on my dodgy roof skin conversions

    it's just added weight

that part of the shell carries no load, and thus needs no bracing.

I agree that a carefully positioned brace would stiffen up the shell considerably and for what little it owuld weigh would still be worth while. I have braced up some of my old cars Mk3 escorts mainly and can say it was worth the hassle - I reealise an old escort shell would be tired to start with though.

    However, as Ashleyp has said...

but an escort has rear strut towers!
    A saxo doesnt!

Agreed mate, very true. However consider the shape of a saxo shell. its basically a square, with a cross brace the square is stiffened considerably.

I realise this is not going to stop the shell from flexing but would go some way to acheiving that.

Chassis flex tends to be diagonally transmitted, so a squaring up the rear with a brace to the arches would make sweet FA difference tbh.

I think that is the reason why you fit a roll cage, I know I fitted my cage to strengthen the shell anyway.

There is no structural strength in that part of the chassis and to be honest its not even safe to fit a bar and use it to have your harnesses attached.

you can do this to it with a rollcage fitted

As my name is in this thread I feel I should comment

I do run a brace across the rear of my car between the C pillars. This is not to strengthen the shell in anyway. It is to hold the sides of the car together when the roof comes off and the carbon panel goes on, as I cant run the central reinforcement bar across the roof due to the position of the main roll cage hoop.

The A and B pillars will also be braced in a similar manner, As its not a track car, I don't care about the 100g of extra weight it contributes to the car
