#5Took these whislt putting my Gaz coilovers together.
Quote:Got the coilovers finished off today whilst it was raining outside! Took a few pics as a step by step guide as there doesn't seen to be a guide anywhere, and even Gaz themselves don't supply one. Hopefully it will be of use to some people, plus it will be easy to spot if I've done anything wrong - please let me know if I have!
I took my freshly powdercoated struts (fitted with new bearings and hubs replaced etc) and masked off the series of small lugs on the struts as standard, as these need to be ground off to fit the coilover sleeve:

Here they are all ground down flat. I also ground the powder coating off as this was too thick for the sleeve to slide down over:

Then to protect the struts from rust, I primed them and gave them a light coat of black paint.

Then the coilover collars slide down to the base of the upper strut. Tighten up the grub screws to hold them in place (3 on each strut)

Then place the insert into the strut and refit the threaded collar to lock the insert in place. The collar gets quite tight and therefore you will need something to grip it with - I used a pipe wrench/stilsons.

Then lock the lower spring pan in place and then fit the spring. I also fitted the oe rubber bumpstops, although these needed to be cut down a bit. Then the upper spring pan slips over.

Finally, top mounts go on and are locked down with a bolt which is supplied in the Gaz kit. I'm using Compbrake solid topmounts. The original rubber topmounts, bearings and fittings can also be used I believe:

And thats job done. Struts are ready to refit. I also fitted my brake discs at this point. Using 292mm solid WP Pro drilled and slotted disks for the time being.

#6i take it you need shorter shocks as mine fully extended lets the springs just rattle about
-
#7what coilover kit have you got? what dampers are you using?
-
#8Do the coilover part that you wind up+down to adjust spring need welding on or is it held into place some other way?
