£500 to spend

Since I been layed off from work and a new job is almost lined up, I have 500 to spend without labour costs. My vts is standard apart from a raceland induction kit.. What else would you guys buy for £500 I know its not alot but its a start thanks guys

As much as a complete exhaust system as I could afford. If you buy up bargains you could get manifold, centre pipe and rear silencer.

Would recommend a Supersprint/Piper 4-2-1, Supersprint race pipe and a Piper silencer. You could squeeze that into £500-ish if you are patient and wait till the bargains appear.

As above, + a service if its due

If I were you Id kindly donate it to me

Seriously though, get a full exhaust and manifold and some change left over.
Or put it towards cams and remap.

decent suspension and brakes will always be more rewarding then an exhaust, unless your just up for straight line performance.

Depends what you want from the car?

Can't believe I forgot those, I think I just assume people do this as standard!

Scrap what I said, source a set of GTI-6 brakes, Spax or Apex suspension setup off KamRacing or off here and a racepipe.

lowering if not already 4.2.1 mani and a nice zorst

I'd say brakes, suspension and stiffening first.

why waste money on exhaust and manifolds when the car cant handle a corner?
  12. #12
im no speed freak and just want my saxo looking and sounding nice and also want some more performance out of it..but might get some decent breaks as mine are not that great

id always spend the money on a new set of dampers/springs, a 266mm brake set up and a set of new buses and maybe for rose jointed gear linkages and a quick shift, id get the car driving spot on before doing anything else

Until your new jobs definate keep the money in the bank and then think about wht to spend it on (Dad alex comming out there.lol)

But if you really want to spunk it then suspension and brakes are the 1st things you should look towards!!!! Bollocks to making it go quicker if it cant stop or corner!!

apex kit and some brembos are doable for that budget plus braided lines winner

Id of suggested the suspension if the car was going to be tracked/driven properly.
But saw he was after it looking and sounding nice swayed the exhaust idea.

Usually thats down to worn suspension....
I've got our van running Bilstein B4 dampers all round and standard springs and I found it very fun on the fast sweeping A roads through Devon and cornwall at 60-70mph. You dont want to slow down with a 1.5D.
Admittedly a faster engine can get you heading for corners at higher speeds requiring more braking therefore upsetting the chassis balance more, plus braking will not be as effective due to more weight transfer forward, but it was not dangerous...
I think the standard dampers can handle a relatively minor hike in power from an exhaust system.

Upgrade the brakes, suspension & tyres first

Apex suspension kit, mintex pads, maxtorq disc's, braided hoses, new fluid wishbone + rollbar bushes and after that you'd still have money for some beers and a packet of cigs.
Don't bother with bigger brakes, saxo ones are fine, the only reason people find they fade and have no bite is because they don't bother flushing the fluid and use crap motor factor pads
