Lots of things gone wrong a once! Got me stumped..

I drive a 52' VTR with 65k on the clock. I was driving at about 30 mph a couple of days ago and my EM light started flashing. I lost power on accelaration. Then a minute later the handbrake light and battery light both came on and my power steering went! Managed to pull over and the car cut out all together. I then started it back up and got it home but it seemed to be driving fine! Anyone got any ideas?

Haven't started it since (couple of days) and I'm going to phone the garage later but I'm a bit scared!

    Thanks.

Bad earth possibly causing a volt drop big enough for the ecu to kick off with the em light and as the PAS relay is activated by cahrge from the alternator if it senses no charge (or maybe just very poor charging) then it will knock the PAS pump off as well.

I would be checking battery terminals and earths.

I had a very similar problem with the EM light flashing and then no power, Followed by the battery light. The EM light stayed on for ages and flashed occasionally, normally when it was raining. I tried disconnecting the battery for 4/5 hours to reset the ECU but that didnt work, but it seems to turn off after a long drive. Now its all fine as im commuting a bit longer.
The PAS sounds like a buggered alternator, had that on my old fiat, the alternator worked fine most of the time, then other times it wouldnt work and would get a total power loss.
The RAC guy didnt have a clue what was going on after he jump started it and then the alternator started working again.
I'd drop it to the garage and get diagnostics run on it?

Ah right cheers. Yeah I'm taking it in for diagnostics tomorrow, just hope it's not too pricey because I'm skint!

The garage just phoned, they said that the only codes that showed up were coil pack (which they replaced a month ago) and the ignition barrel. Confusing! But they said that it will be fine with no work on it as it seems fine. Financially this is good news but just a bit worrying! Now for the MOT...
