Hids?

    Hi hope this in the right section.

    basically im after some hids..just a bit confused. would appretiate it if some would explain to me what ea part means? e.g. high/low h4 6000k.

    the high low part is pretty self explanatory bt im not sure on the other 2. i guess the number is the brightness? blueness?

    think i need high/low h4 6000k or 8000k? seems like thats what people get/suggest on here after some browsing.

    also what would u guys suggest. i want a fair difference but not to get pulled by the 5-0 constantly

    H4 is the bulb type and the 6000k part is the colour temperature. I'm pretty sure 6000k is white and higher up goes blue anythin over 10,000k will look purple.

    I have 8000k on mine. As for getting stopped by police, I havent had anything said to me about them.

    Majority go for 6000k. Ive got a 6000k set and they look spot on

    Rather then be my normal these HID bulbs kits are illegal to use on the road http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps and that any none road legal mod can and generally will invalidate your insurance I will try and be semi helpful.

    The Saxo is a Hi Lo H4 bulb and does NOT hold Lo beam on when you swap to Hi. HID bulbs take time to come on a lot like strip lights and energy saving light bulbs in your house. So you have to get a kit that holds the Lo beam on or has a single sliding bulb or it can do dark when flicking from Hi to Lo beam and back again. Blatantly this is bad. Productions cars that come with HID come with 35w bulbs so you are best to stay at this as they are very bright as they are. Production cars come with bulbs of colour temperature from 3500k up to 5800k as in the likes of some high end BMWs and the likes. The higher the “k” number the LESS usable light you get so its actually harder to see with. Also the way the eye reacts the higher the “k” number the more your ever struggles and is dazzled by them. You may also have to have your headlight beam aim correct normally as generally for the new bulbs. Don't forget also that to pass a MOT your lights have to be white or yellow. No other colour will pass a properly done MOT. You should also declare them to your insurer. Now this is a bit of a problem as if you fully disclose as you should that you are putting none road legal lights they will just tell you to go away. So most people just play ignorance and do not declare them or if they do they are very selective about what they tell there insurance company. Its easy enough to just read some blurb off the box and they will just put it on your insurance. Though even then if you are in a accident they still do NOT have to pay out if the car is not road legal.

    Thanks for that info, i appretiate the time and effort that u put into that post =]. The above i wasnt aware of so i found a very interesting read. I knew they wern't road legal but that didnt put me off but i overlooked the insurance aspect of it though, which has put me off haha =]. Thankyou very much!

    You could always change the bulbs if something happened. They cant say anythin about the ballasts being bolted in the engine bay if you werent actually using them

    litrally just declared my hid's to brentacre insurance and they were fine with it, must be down to insurers discretion

    was there no questions asked about the bulbs? dont think flux will react the same. may aswell ring em and enquire anyway =]
