re sealing oil sump

    just found out i got a leak coming from my sump, was thinking of trying to do it my self but where should i get the seal from ???service citreon and need advice on wat oil to change to its a 1.4 t reg

    get the seal from any motor factory (euro parts ..gsf...ses etc) and any good 10/40 oil and i would get a new oil filter at the same time

    The seal is a liquid sealent

    Very easy to do tbh, but you 100% need a torque wrench to get all the bolts the same

    and you will need to do opposite to opposite bolts

    Jack up on stands

    Drain the oil, plug back in and tighten up

    flywheel cover off, 2 bolts iirc

    Then undo all the bolts around the sump, about 20 of them hold it in and a few are stud ones, the nut probablies wont come off it will just be the stud and nut

    Should now be able to crack the sump off, you may need to get a knife around it to cut the old sealent a bit to get the sump off, usually takes a bit of muscle to get off

    Once off id use a tray to catch any dripping oil

    clean off all the sealent from the bottom end of engine, using a scraper and some thinners to clean any oil off, same with the sump itself, and when i say clean i mean it has to be clean of old sealent completely

    once your happy, make sure the sump isnt mishapen (usually will if you have levered it off) put it on a flat surface see if its ok then apply the new sealent

    put a bead around the outside of the pan, going around the holes making sure it will get a good seal, leave for about 15 minutes before putting the sump back on, in the meantime give the bottom end a good clean wtih thinners

    then put sump on and put the bolts in hand tight, then go around torqueing them up opposite to oppostie corners/sides

    flywheel back on

    new oil in or old engine oil if its just been serviced recently

    Once you get it all back on it should of had enough time to adhere a bit, then start the car up, usually an hour after you have applyed the sealent you can run the engine but read the instructions on the sealent

    Thinks thats about it but like i say, getting all the old sealent and making sure the surface is 100% clean is the key to a good seal

    The sealent i use it RTV sealent, great stuff and can get it here
