Important! : Loom questions.

Its very late at night so forgive me if this don't make sense.

I have a 1998 106 GTi engine, but have had alot of trouble finding a loom for it to fit my 2000 VTR, this is due to my 2000 VTR is a single plug ECU with large multiplug.

    So, would the following work..

Buy a 3 Plug ECU and Loom. It will connect with the multiplug, but its a 3 plug loom and ECU, would this work with my 16v engine?

I think it would work as it connects to the rest of my interior loom if it has the larger multiplug. But will all the sensors be alright with this?

    Just to clear it up;
2000 VTR (Single Plug ECU but with the larger Multiplug)..
GTi Engine (1998) but used with a 3 Plug Loom & ECU (with the larger Multiplug)

keep searching, there are loads of single plug large multi plug looms kicking about.

You can always adapt it to run on a 3plug if it doesnt directly plug in (which it probably will)

Searched here and the local scrap yards, cannot find nothing :/ so my idea of putting a 3 plug ECU and loom in there will not work? Transition year saxo's are a pain in the arse!

it will work but there might be the need to swap a few wires around in the multiplug if it isnt direct plug in

Hmm, sounds like a tricky decision.. Wish engines were alot simpler!

    they are

would be simple if you bought the right engine for your car

I had the same problem trying to convert my x reg vtr with the single plug ecu and the single large multi plug connector, i bought a single plug vts engine but couldn't get hold of the right loom. What plug ecu and loom was the gti engine you have bought? Im sure that gti engines have a double multi plug loom on them or at least some do! You will be able to do it if you find the right loom but i think it will involve a bit of chopping wires and modifying the loom to suit. I solved the problem by selling up and buying another vts in the end!!!!!!!!

does sound like these x-over saxos are a pain, im glad i haven't got one lol took me a few days to do my whole conversion lol

just get a 3plug vts loom and unlocked ecu. Plug it in and fingers crossed. 98% will defiantly match up

i heard its not as simple to just cut and splice on new connectors someone told me the engines work slightly differently, something to do with the ignition?? i cant remember might very well be wrong

Ive got the same issues at present.

I have a Y-reg VTR and wanting too put a VTS in it, The R is 3 plug ecu, Now ive managed to source a 3 plug VTS Loom for the engine, So in theory all i need do now is fit the VTS Engine and an Unlocked ECU and it should fire into life yeh.....????
