gearbox issues

    right where do i start

about 3 weeks ago i got someone to change the clutch as the release bearing was chewing it up,

about 2 weeks ago the gears started to be a bit notchy in 3rd but i didnt think nothing of it, and now gradually all gears are getting really notchy except fifth gear, i have adjusted the clutch cable, topped the gearbox up with oil and the linkages look in good condition from what i can see,

i can quite easily see this being a new gearbox needed but just thought id ask if it could be something reaaly little(wishful thinking)

when the car gets warm (about 30 mins driving) it is quite easy to put into gear but still a little notchy but when its cold it feels like i have to ram it in. which i hate doing.

when the engine is off the gears are real easy to put into gear its just when im driving and the oil is cold

gear box is a bit leaky but not dripping any oil anywhere

    any help would be great

i dont think its the clutch as its ok when the gearbox oil gets warm, just feels like any other 13 year old french gearbox(bit notchy)

when the oil is cold im having to put into neutral and lets the revs go down then change gear and its not so crunchy when going into gear

ive been told it could be a extremely strecthed clutch cable and not disengaging properly

    im confused :-/

I have a similar problem with my box, although yours sounds a bit worse tbh. Mine is leaky and is starting to get more stiff when changing gear. I'm taking it to a decent garage run by my dads mate on monday, I'll let you know what they say..

    cheers fella, appreciate it

linkages are on the way out on mine which caused the stiffness. Seals had gone on the drive shaft as well so oil was leaking on the exhaust and causing it to smell.

    Hi,

It sounds like your new release bearing may not be fitted correctly. It may have moved when the gearbox was put back on the engine. It is very easily for this to happen.

If so, then you will not be able to adjust the clutch to get it to fully disengage and hence have trouble selecting gears.

Have a good look at the release bearing when you remove the box and take it from there.
