Important! : Intermittent starting problem

My saxo VTR has developed an intermittent starting problem. I will try my best to describe what is going on...

Sometimes when I start the engine it doesn't seem to fire up properly and runs rough (sounds like it might be misfiring or not running on all four cylinders), usually until I give it some revs. After giving it some revs, the rough/misfiring stops but it idles higher than normal/hunts until it settles down a short time later.

On some occassions it continues to not run properly for a few minutes, even with revs. I also notice that there is sometimes a really strong fuel smell as well.

Other times it takes forever to even fire up at all, and then the rough running follows when it eventually does start.

I've noticed that these starting problems only seem to occur after the engine is being started from cold and it is warm outside (I left car untouched for a few days the other day when it was cold and it started fine). Starting the engine once it is warm doesn't seem to be any problem.

I need to clean my ICV as prior to these starting problems, the engine revs on its own when cold. Is it likely that all these other issues are as a result of the ICV, or is it likely to be something else as well?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check temp sensor (green). Get car up to temp and idling then unclip the connection to the green sensor, if engine spazzes out then sensor is likely to be okay.

If engine note/speed does not change then get another green sensor in there fella.
