Compression Spec.

    Hi friends,

I've done a little search on here and Google and my Haynes Book but I can't find the spec and min Compression in Bar/psi for a MK2 1.1i

I've done a test and I think it's quite low I'd of said it should be around 13-15 Bar myself but they've all came around the 7 mark un-oiled and 9 oiled.

This seems very low to me, although it runs fine and I'm not worried about it.

If anyone knows the specs I'd be greatful

    Thanks Guys

compressions are low at that and if they go up that much when oiled i'd say the rings/bores are starting to get tired. tested a VTS the other day and its was up around 170 psi dry whereas yours are at around 103psi dry and 132 wet

Yeh I knew the rings are the problem as they did go up with oiling, I tested my MK1 today and man, it's got none at all one the left two and 3 and 4 bar on the right two haha.

So you're saying the spec is around 170psi? I know it'll never be that as it's on 60,000miles but I just wanted to know what it should be.

    Thanks mate.

the 170 was on a 89k engine!!! shame we found 2 that had less then 30 where the head gasket had split lol, old Land Rover 2286 petrols used to run as low as 120psi even when new

170 is about normal for a vts engine to be fair!

my old vts engine, at 80k miles was only 150 psi!

does sound like the rings are worn abit dude.
