Scum strike again - how to change rear window

  1. #1
Just got woke up by someone telling me my car had been damaged last night. Went out and it looks like someone has ran over the roof and then stepping on the spoiler smashed the back window. At least the tint stop the glass going inside the car.

Is this easy to replace from scrappy or will end up breaking it myself. Anyone got any tips for doing it. Heading there later on as its a bit early.

Just fitted a toad alarm but didnt get the shock sensor , anyone guess what my next eBay purchase will be?

    Cheers

Thats unlucky mate, would probably be easiest if you can pick up the full tailgate if your going to a scrappy.

Only thing is the colour, I know he hasn't got any icelandic and really dont want to have to get it sprayed.

Anyone know a rough price of a new rear window fitted?

When my Rear screen got done i just bought the screen form the scrappy for £25 and paid autoglass to fit it.

A few years ago now but think they charged me £40 to fit the glass.

It worked out much cheaper than getting an all in job.

Just to add if there are any autoglass vans parked around near where you live it might be worth knocking on the owners door and asking if they fancy a bit of cash in hand to fit the glass you get from the scrappy.

You will probably find most people pretty receptive to the idea.

Sounds like I will do that then, if the scrappy doesnt want to fit it. This is prob a good time to leave the rear wiper off too.

Whats you excess on your insurance for glass cover then because you know it wont affect your no claims yeah. My excess was like £75 so i just got it done through insurance. Just for ease of not having to get the glass out of another saxo.

Not sure about insurance but dont even think I can get it from another saxo as its bonded in.

Anyone know how much it will cost for a new one fitted from someone like autoglass?

I had a search on the internet about 8 months ago and had a company come hover, remove all glass re-seal and replace it all for £80... I closed my boot too hard one day and shattered it.

£80 I thought was a great price... sorry I can't remember who I used but there is someone who will come and sort it very cheap for you.

Wasn't covered by insurance as im only TPFT.

Cost me £144 all in at National Windscreens today and then instead of gettin it tinted again I just removed the side tint and actually think it looks better.
