    Hi,

Please forgive this as i am not techical with cars at all.
Just been given a vtr which needs a new gearbox (i think as its making a whirring noise while in gear, and as soon as i take it out of gear the whirring noise stops) driveshafts and a clutch, the clutch is starting to slip as the car revs before the rev counter kicks in, im just wondering if anyone knows whether i can change the clutch without doing the other work? Like do you need to put a new clutch in when changing the gearbox or driveshafts and also if you know someone who would do all this work for a good price that would be great (am based in staines, middlsex)

    many thanks

hi mate you don't have to change the clutch when doing the driveshafts and gearbox but if its slipping then why wouldn't you replace it? plus you will have the gearbox out of the car anyway so it will only take you 5 mins to wip the old clutch off and bolt the new one on...its worth doing mate if its starting to slip. If the gearbox is whinning and stuff then replace it and check your driveshafts, check all the rubber gaitars for splits and check the cv joint for play so i there knocking then get them replaced too

thanks mate so are the cv joints not part of the driveshafts/clutch/gearbox? if its not i could be looking at replacing the gearbox/clutch/driveshaft and the cv joint? also if i lock the car nearly on full lock i get a clunking noise aswell, is that the cv joint?
