Saxo Speedometer issue

  1. #1
    Hi,

I decided to buy a Saxo last week - 2001 1.1 Basic runaround car.

within 1 week i have already encountered a problem - My rev counter now starts at about 8000 rpm and my speed o meter now begins at about 10mph.

So basically when i am going 10mph it will say im doing 20 mph..Not much fun in central london where its speed camara central.

I've seen everybody say just disconnect the battery? - Is this the best solution and is it really that simple to fix this issue?

    anyhelp would be great

    Thanks

It sounds like someone has had the clocks off before and taken the needles out, I would take them back out and manually re adjust them

I agree. Sounds like the needles aren't matching up to the actual dials

Ok thanks...is there an easy way to take of the panel in front of the dials?

easy yes but you need to remove the steering wheel to get the dails out then you can remove the face its just got loads of clips round it need to push them in pull it off. best have a look it another saxo dials so you know where to put them once you take the needles off

Is it worth just finding a garage to do this or would it be really expensive? I'm not a car expert at all so don't want to make anything worse

cheers all but turns out it might have been caused by trader I bought it off turning the mileage back. did government check and it went from 143k to 60k miles.

get some evidence and take them to small claims? was it a private trade or from a garage?

Ouch. Try and sue the bastard.

Private trade which makes it more difficult to take legal action I think.

I'm booked into Citroen garage next week so hopefully its just a case of resetting the dials - Fingers crossed!!!

I always though garages who did MOT had to check mileage but guess I was wrong!

garage that does mot have no interest if miles are different it does show but they arnt bothered as mot is just to make sure is roadworthy i take it you did not do a history check before buying ? pity as you could have walked you wont get anywhere trying to sue as it has to be proven who did it not that its been done
