What the hell is this noise? Sounds like a bearing of some sort *(Video Included)

I did a 60 mile trip on the motorway the other week and as soon as i got off it and hit a 30 zone it started to make this noise. Happens only when slowing down/cruising at 30mph.

Doesnt change if i put the clutch in or not press it, and doesnt make the noise when i accelerate.

And when i set off you can hear a high pitched squeaking but its quiet.

Could someone help shed some light for me please.

My car is a mk2 x reg vtr standard on 65k miles

Worst noise on earth, Had it myself, Driveshaft or Wheel Bearing,

It went after I had new wheel bearing, then it came back and had new driveshaft, haven't heard it since

ive only just got the car only 2 weeks ago.

Aww man. Will it be best to replace both drive shafts and both wheel bearings at the same time if this is the casue of the noise?

And are these exspensive parts as i have come from cheap as chips fiat?

Thats exactly the same as what i had mate, It'll be the driveshaft, Theres a bearing on the driveshaft that will have dried up and lost its grease......you'll need a new driveshaft, We tried to re-grease mine but the noise came back pretty quickly. Jack it up and see if theres any play in either shaft, it maybe difficult to tell which one it is unless you can defo make out what side the noise is coming from.

    Hope this helps pal.

It cost me about £90-£100 for the drive shaft and it fitting, thats a vts one not sure if the vtr ones ar the same, mine was the drives side. Ones longer than the other, and more expensive i belive.

I've recently had both my driveshafts replaced, as the cv bearings had gone in both, didn't make this noise though, mine was more of a clunking noise, especially when turning corners, could be wheel bearing, easy way to check if it is wheel bearing is jack up the car, and check for any "play" (wobble/movement) in the wheel when holding the top and bottom.

Price wise....for my driveshafts it cost me £60 each for the shafts, and then another £60 for a local garage to fit them. So in total cost £180, whereas KwikFit wanted £290.

As for wheel bearings, from my previous cars, have cost anywhere between £70 to £90.

    Hope it helps

No worries, easiest way to tell, jack the front wheel up, and spin it, if it's gone you'll know about it!

mine is doin the same is it dangerous to keep on the road ? when i first heard it i thought my wheel was gonna come of ha

if its wheel bearing, then the sooner its replaced the better, cos if it collapses completely, then the whole wheel assembly (wheel, bottom suspension mount etc) could come off whilst driving
