remove pas

can anyone tell me how hard it is to remove my pas? i cracked my pump during my 16v conversion and id rather just remove it rather than pay for a new pump, and i prefer non-pas cars anyway, is it just a case of remvoing the pump and pipes, or do i need to fit a different rack? or what? if there is a guide on here can some please direct me towards it.

I searched "remove pas" but it just came up with loads of unrelated threads about removing other parts of he car lol ill keep searching it the mean time

    thanks in advance

I'm not ure but have heard that you need a non pas rack, which i think fits straight in. Hopefully someone who has done it will post.

You need the non PAS rack, so may aswell just do the pump as it would be ALOT easier and cost about the same.

also a PAS rack without the PAS pump working is a nightmare, it will try and fight you all the time!!

i would just get a new Pump, can pick them up for about 40 quid, if you look around.

    +1

Its near impossible if you have sticks for arms. Pretty good if you intend to be a weight lifter in the near future though.

Also when cornering it kinda feels like all the bearings have seized and the steering sticks a lil bit.

yea the steering does seam to have a mind of its own now and again, but not to the point id say its dangerous, looks like ill just get a new pump

it does seam a little strange though, when my pas/rear de-mister and blowers went (the common electrical fault) the steering was soooo heavy and my arms ached so much, but even though ive cracked the pump and all the fluid has leaked out its doesn't seam overly heavy, as if the pump is still sort of working, doesn't seam no where near as heavy as it was when i had the electrical problem, its easily drivable but obviously not as light as it used to be

Probabaly couse the pump is still spinning then?

Did it crack by you tapping it with a hammer? Years ago when my PAS went i hit it with a hammer and broke it all, then found out about this ignition bypass which was the actual problem lol

Steering wont be dangerous, jus feel abit wierd at times lol

ive already done the ignition by pass almost a year ago now,

i dropped the 16v engine on to it and it put a little crack in it and loads of red fluid trickled out, like i said its heavier but no where near as heavy as it was, before i put the ignition by pass in, so as you say it must still be working to a point, but i don't have a clue how pas works anyway lol
