Well, here are the facts. I bought my 1.5 SXD Saxo in January, which was registered in Londonderry, northern Ireland, it had NI mot and tax. The owner had the complete V5 log book, which was filled out correctly, and was sent to DVLA (log book is the same as GB to make matters more confusing.) Some time later, i got a letter from DVLA, saying that i need to take a photocopy of the log book (which they supplied, bless 'em!) along with my insurance, mot, etc to register it in the UK. No problem, i thought, as i'd just mot'd the car last Friday, and of course had insurance, and the NI tax disc, which expires end May. Any road up, after about an hour, i was told the car has a 'marker' on it that says it was scrapped in NI, and 'where is the car?' outside, if you want to see it, i explained, i've been using it for nearly 4 months! and bring the car along for an inspection next month, when, if you've been paying attention, the tax will have rub out! GRR! i hope nobody else has had a problem like this, but if you have (or know anyone who has, please advise!) many thanks, confused.Dave
DVLA tell me my Sax has been scrapped! (bought it from northern Ireland end Jan, now DVLA say it was scrapped in NI!)

#2Hopefully its just a mix up and you get it sorted.
Did you contact the person you bought it off?
Maybe they filled out the scrapping part instead of the bit they were supposed to. -
#3HPI>>>
-
#4Full log book was done correctly, won't pay for HPI, if not sorted, may as well just drive it here (well, it's all legal, and not on DVLA database, check it WDZ 5836, could it be bonus time, F*CK the tax?) ie, ANPR checks no problem?
-
#5an hpi check is only 3quid using your mobile well worth it imo.
-
#6text check followed by a space then the reg to 88600
-
#7Thanks, but i don't think an hpi check would work out the same on a NI registered vehicle, but i stand to be corrected.............
-
#8ANPR checks would flag up the vehicle as reportedly being scrapped....and be worse in the eyes of the law than tax evasion
-
#9I just had a thought, the car has had a replacement door at some point, and perhaps it was in a prang, and the owner at the time told NI authorities it was being scrapped, and it was decided later to fix it? all seemed ok when i bought the car as the previous owner had the complete V5, and all the numbers on the car seems fine! oh well, only time will tell!
-
#10You might want to double check whether it has been scrapped. The DVLA are not perfect and has been known to make really serious mistakes.
-
#11or he could of fixed it, told him it was scrapped on a different form yet still have the V5 to make it look complete
-
#12yeah could have had more than one V5, i.e. tell them its lost and get a new one then use the old one to say its scrapped
-
#13Thanks all. Only got to wait until 1st June to find out, (got to take it to Borehamwood for inspection) better clear it out in case i've got to walk home (boo-hoo!) never mind, such is life...........
-
#14SoUnds like uve been stitched mate hope it turns out to be ok
-
#15you got to here to buy a diesel saxo

#17Do all your vin and engine numbers match the book? If not its a ringer.
If numbers all match, could be DVLA cock up. I had to threaten court action before i got a road tax refund when I changed my plate onto the new car. They tried to say the old car was never registered to me, or to anyone at my address. I pointed out that I had been receiving road tax renewal demands and paying them for 4 years, so they must have sent them to wrong person and owed me some money
Thirdly, it could be the car was written off, and returned to the road. You will be given a note on the log book....cat c etc (sorry, I am not really up on this aspect, sure someone will know)
So basically as long as its not a ringer then it should be fine -
#18I checked all the numbers and they all match up and don't appear to have been tampered with. Also, i took it for an MOT last Friday, which it passed, and no problems there (the tester had to put the details on VOSA here, still no problems!)Quote:Do all your vin and engine numbers match the book? #19Update...............went along for inspection, where the 'po-faced' inspector checked the vin number under the bonnet, then asked me to open the tailgate, where he poked about with a torch, writing things down, it turns out there's another vin number there! when i asked 'what happens next?' he said 'i'll submit my report' with a very surly attitude! 'what about the tax?' i asked 'it ran out yesterday!' i exclaimed, 'oh, come with me' he replied, where he took me to one of the desks, where the girl asked if i'd like to tax it, which she done immediately, and gave me the disc, when i asked 'will i get a log book in my name in the post?' the answer was 'i dunno'! so off i went, that's the story so far, so back to waiting and see what happens.................

#20Complete and utter ^$%$*^, sorry to hear about your crap journey mate, been there and done that with my previous Astra, ended up being a write off and put back on the road without registration, the DVLA had cocked up their end so he could sell it as a normal car not a cat V
-
#21In these days of 'modern technology' i can't believe how hard the simplest of tasks are, things were easier years ago! btw, i'm still none the wiser of the outcome! #22so have i read this right, the front end of your car has one vin number and the rear end has a dirrerent vin number?
doesnt sound good if you ask me mate.
It could possibly be that it has had a new front end/rear end and they have simply forgotten to swap over the vin plates, very stupid thing to do but could have happened.
Is there any colour difference between the front end of the car and rear end?
Worst Case is it could be the result of below -
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/safety_a..._shut_cars.jsp
Have you contacted the person you bought it from?
Whatever the reason is i would get the car seriously checked over by an independant garage to make sure its all ok and above board. -
#23I haven't checked the numbers yet (but i will when i can find a torch!) i assume they must be the same or surely they would not have taxed it? also the previous owner has gone to Poland, and not expected to return!Quote:so have i read this right, the front end of your car has one vin number and the rear end has a dirrerent vin number?

-
#26Well i just done a DVLA vehicle enquiry online, and the details of the car are now there, whereas they weren't before i went for the inspection, i can only assume it's all ok now, but i still won't know until i get the logbook through! confused.Dave
