New clutch hasn't worked

Had a new clutch fitted to my VTR as it was nearly impossible to get in to gear. Since there has been a marked improvement but there is still more resistance than normal when trying to select the lower gears, particularly when the car is cold and has not been driven.

Would replacing the linkages or any of the joints between the gearbox and the car help? Or is it a case of my gearbox being terminally ill???

Id say check the linkage mate, its the next most likely thing to cause the problem

ive got a similar problem but my linkages look ok, how can i check them to make sure they are all good?

Does is go into gear with engine off? If so your clutch is dragging, you will need to tension the cable a bit more in order for the clutch to fully dissengage.

sounds to me like you have the wrong oil in your box if its a lot worse when cold and better once warmed up, this suggests your oil is too thick and not the correct stuff for the car. get some descent oil and you should see a good improvement

    Cheers for the responses...

    1. How do I check the linkages? Is this something I can do easily myself (without a ramp)?

    2. How do you change gearbox oil - used to changing the engine oil but never done the gear box.

    3. The clutch cable seems to be adjusted as tight as it will go (it was like this before I had the clutch changed and hasn't moved since). Does this mean the cable has been overstretched and needs replacing?

Look under your car you will be able to see all the linkages just behind the sump

Lol I know where they are but what am I checking for?

some times the ball on the linkage arm comes off or wears which causes poor gear changes.
