I'm buying a VTS on friday, it grinds in first and no other gear :/ .. if you dip the clutch the grinding goes, i have been told this is most likely the gearbox, is this the biggest possabilty?
thanks

Could be the clutch cable needs adjusting. The clutch is meant to fully disengage with any gears when the pedal is pushed down.
Either that or the synchros are knakered. Get a new box if you're not confident it taking it apart and replacing the one gear

i think if i took my box apart i would be going faster backwards than forwards :/ i'll take a look at the clutch cable then, if not then i think its new box time
how much are vts box's?

Sounds like the thrust bearing from the sounds of it mate, nothing to do with the clutch cable, not massively expensive but bet ya any money that'll sort the problem

would the release bearing be an issue for just first gear?

thrust bearing would only make a noise when clutch is pressed down due to thats when it spins when in contact with pressure plate if its only first and noise goes when clutch down its the first motion shaft bearing thats gone but basically a box rebuild req i had same noises with mine but my box has now failed and pissed oil onto the clutch
