There is a tapping noise coming from my cambelt area. Sounds like its under the casing, does that mean time for new cambelt. Saxos done 60k but dont know if its been changed yet.. Also there is a loud noise coming the 16v box things do you know what that could be.. Thanks guys

The cambelt gives no audible warning before it lets go but at 60K I would be changing it anyway mate. The 16v Box you talk about - I guess is the cam covers - noise in this area, ie tapping might be solved with a good service or failing that a new set of cam followers (you can not manually adjust then like the 8v engine).

sounds to me like the belt is hitting the casing.. possibly come loose.. mine did it when the tensioner wasnt tight enough, but if it hasnt been changed recently.. id advise getting it changed asap, if theres any sort of noise/wear on it do it.

If you want to check yourself, there are about 4 or 5 allen key bolts (assuming its a 16v)that hold the cambelt cover on, undo them and you will be able to pull the cover apart enough to see if there is any wear on the belt.

Well if it goes then it's big time damage, especially if it's at valve overlap you will blow the head up, hopefully just the gasket. But no it isn't good.

Just get someonw who knows whats what to change the belt and listen to the tapping noise as well mate. If it snaps you will regret messing about looking for answers on here.

Have you not even taken the top cover off for a look? 2 x 10mm bolts, its easier than posting on here expecting us know what it is

Im afraid it does. I had a cambelt go on a Escort and it make a terrible thwacking sound before it went plug.

I was just asking!! To see if anyone on here has or had the same problems. I last remembered thats what forums are for, if I took the head or the 16v box off I would probs make things worse
