Disks for Hispec's.

  1. #1
As per title really. May have been asked before but I can't search on my phone before you moan at me

I'm sure I've read that the 1s from hispec themselves are not too great. Can anyone make some suggestions? Also places to get them (website links would be awsome)

    Thanks in advance

    Sean.

The ones for the billet 4 kit are a renault disk, modified by hispec for use with their kits. They re-dill the hub face for the wheel bolts, and enlarge the centre bore.

So finding a set from another company is going to be almost impossible. Its quite a clever ploy by hispec to keep customers returning for them for consumables.

I'm running 306 gti6 discs with my hi specs billet 4's.

I'm pretty sure mine are Hi-specs ones which came with the brakes. They seem pretty good to me... 285mm.

And the 306 gti disks run fine?
  6. #6
I had to shave a fraction of a mm off the outside pad - apart from that they seem fine. Done around 5k+ on them.

I think the discs are around 1mm too small diameter wise, but with the Volvo 240 pads I'm using seems fine.

Is it totally necessary to take some off the pads? Does 1mm really make that much difference?

I took nowhere near 1mm off - it does make a difference when the wheel is stiff to turn! Didn't want to risk warping the discs trying to drive like it so just shaved a bit off.

Literally around 15seconds per outside pad sanding it down.

It really sounds more work than it actually was!

Volvo pads, gti6 discs and a hi spec fitting kit cost me less than 1 hi spec disc delivered.

Hispec fitting kit? Sorry to sound like a noob can you tell I haven't changed the disks before! Could you get me some links please bud? Sorry to be a pain.

You'll have to phone hi spec to order them

When I bought my hi specs second hand the pad retaining pins were shot so bought them from hi spec in like a little pad fitting kit with some R clips too.

The pins only come out one way btw, from memory you hit them out from the front.

Ah right ok mate no problems. Just need to find the bits now. Don't suppose you have a picture of the bit you had to grind down have you just so I know.

    Cheers.

Grind sounds severe!! Lol, you want to keep the pad face flat!

It's just the material face (that's in contact with the disc) on the outside pad that needs a slight shave.

If you fit it all up you'll see what I mean.

If you're not confident then might just be worth going for hi spec discs. I havnt heard any bad reports on them for what it's worth

I got the volvo pads from eBay for something like £8 delivered so don't mind using them up whilst the cars a daily - here's the pad/Volvo details http://www.saxperience.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=139153

Hi Spec disc price, I can't remember the exact price when I ordered some pad pins, but £70+vat+delivery a disc rings a bell? I wasn't prepared to get bent over when I was just using the car on the road - tbh when mine sees the track more often I'll stick to gti6 discs as cheap to replace.

I was tempted with Willsys maxtorq gti6 discs he's selling@mo for £40 cash as a spare set of discs to replace mine when they are shot

cool cheers for the linky matey will defo get some of these for daily use, they are that easy to change on hi specs you can chuck a set in by the time it takes to get the wheel off!
