zara vts into saxo

  1. #1
my brother has a zara vts that has been badly damaged at the back. he says we should try and put it into my vtr. has anyone done this or thought about doing this at all. would it work.the idea is great but i dont know alot about engines.

do a search on it mate been asked loads of times

the general crack on it is it'll cost alot and for 167bhp and the amount you'd spend putting the engine in you'd be better off tuning your vts

saying that though a lad round my way "claims" hes got a xsara vts engine in his saxo but i aint seen it so to be honest i dont believe it not for the 1400 quid he claims it cost

quite a bit of fabrication work is needed for minimal gains over a slightly tuned vts lump so as Ste says don't waste your time, instead spend the money on a vts transplant. or do a search and read the 400000 threads on this topic already

why they already have the engine and all the bits to make it work so it wouldnt cost that much

why would it cost any less than a vts conversion? say he fits the engine himself, you've still got to make up custom driveshafts, custom engine and gearbox mounts, gear linkage, then there's the wiring to sort. like i said, read the other threads about this conversion and you'll see why transplanting and tuning a vts engine will always be the more viable option ,whether it be the ease of the conversion, the speed of the car or the handling.

i read that it could upset the balance of the car putting the 2 litre in. but surely the engine could be tuned to produce more than the 1.6 vts lump

if you have money to throw at it by all means go ahead, but if you threw the same money at a vts lump as you did to a xsara vts lump then there wouldn't be much in it and with the saxo vts lump it will handle better. not being funny mate but you really need to do a search and read all the other threads about this topic.

my mate tried it gave up 2grand later, basically need to weld front of a xsara onto a saxo, just aint happenin

i have tought of doing it but never found an engine or had the money to make it happen.

itll take alot of money getting custom bits made unless you know someone that can do it....

youll need to upgrade your brakes, suspension, insurance....!

i can imagin the phone call..... heya ive got a citroen saxo and ive put a 2litre 16 valve engine in it!!!

    quote me happy

then all you hear is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA £4000 HAHAHAHAHHA excess £1000 HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA....

plus the engine is alot heavier and it would have really shit handling.....

sounds like more trouble than its worth wont bother.
  12. #12
keep the saxo lightweight like its meant to be... thats the best bit about it
  13. #13
dont get me wrong it would be really good but its ALOT of work.... for the amount of power you would get...

when a turbo or supercharger would be better with alot less work...
  14. #14
what sort of power would a 2litre 16v turbo produce though, only wondering probably be cheeper to buy an evo or scooby,
  15. #15
bout 270bhp give or take 10bhp

but then theres loadza other stuff ud need to upgrade
  16. #16
it will be damn heavy man...like they say it might really affect handling and braking badly... think you should call it off...
  17. #17
im not going to do it mate just getting some knollege on the idea, my brother might be buying a saxo to give it a go, he has the money for it, let you know if he does.
