tappets now louder after getting sorted?

    Hey guys

    Began to get sick of the tick from my engine, + it was getting louder slowly, so took it to an independant to get looked at/sorted. They said some were way too tight and 1 or 2 loose but set them normally.

    Checked the car with the guy and there are now a few extra taps + its louder, he just said they're normal to tap, and I suppose they are, but surely the noise should get less rather than more after getting them sorted?

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Who did the tappets for you?

    The non-roller rocker gear wears over time as the cam lobe comes into direct contact with the heel of the rocker, so the tappets need adjusting fairly regular - should really be done as part of a major service.

    The tapping is a characteristic of the 8V engine though, noisy injectors sometimes contribute. If you trust the garage, I wouldn't worry about it.
