solid mounts

whats it like running solid mounts on your road car??

i have a stiffer powerflex lower mount which i noticed the diffrence to start but didnt really bother me...

    solid ones a good move?

Not for road. I would never get them for road. At a standstill the car will vibrate like hell, the backlash of the engine is much more harsh. Not a good move

well as the lower mount takes most the strain what about running tope solid mounts and keeping the lower one powerflex....

I'm not sure. But as the torque will twist the engine pivotting around the crank the soild top will stop this more than a solid bottom so not much point having the poly bottom one and a solid top. I'm not sure if anyone has done this before. i would have though being solid it would be destroyed by the flex of the poly mount as all of the movement will be ancored on the soild mount.
Try and find someone with soild mounts and ask them about road use.

its horrible, and gets very annoying! i would love to be able to put standard mounts back in mine!

    Why don't you?

ive heard the lower one makes the most diffrence as thats the one the engine tries turning.... so the two top mounts shouldnt be to bad i didnt think

If youn have the money, try it.

because when you're running over double the power of the standard engine the engine kicks back too aggressivley and starts to pull things apart.

Just use Group N or A pugsport items. Solid mounts are just stupid but those are very good items

I quite like the vibrations tbh got GrpA lower and N upper. Had then on for about 9 months now and havnt got fedup with them at all.

Its brilliant. I ran 100% solid mounts on all 4. Vibrations were only felt through the steering wheel when sitting still. When moving you dont notice the difference. If you drive hard or spend anytime on a circuit solid mounts are the way forwards.
Pulling away took some getting used to as so much more torque is transmitted to the wheels rather than being lost in engine movement. After a couple of standing starts soon worked out how to be smoother pulling away.

+1 I get on fine with them - hardly notice them now tbh. Just have to squint at the rear view mirror sometimes to see what's behind you

Soon be rocking a rose-joint lower gearbox mount, should be interesting

Are you using the vibratechnics road version or the competition mounts? I'm unsure of which ones to go for. And i've also read you get a metal spring type thing for the ECU side which some people leave off? Iirc it was Danny_gti who said that over on shed.

I'm running Peugeot Sport Group N upper engine and gearbox mounts with a Baker HardRubber/metal lower gearbox one.

I'd personally go competition, if changing upper mount then may as well go the full hog.

I've not heard anything about a spring - I'd be tempted to give them a quick call to ask them, I'm sure they'd be happy to explain it to you.

my mates put them in a ek9 civic all round i dont think they are that bad you get smoother gear changes and the car is a lot less jerky on pull off vibration isnt all tht bad no worse than the old transits!!

Hmm, seem alright, youll definatly feel the vibrations with all 3. Are they really needed on your car? If you want to do the engine mounts personally solid lower then hard rubber top ones, id rather have some give somewhere. Hard rubber ones wear out eventually, so if these are solid metal then the wear will have to go somewhere else..

    Up to you though

ye thats what i thought... which is why i asked... due to the car bein on the road and pot holes etc am i better of goin for somthin with a lil more give?

    imo yes..

Im happy with my setup, but with the ECU one upgraded to a GrpN which will give this setup:

    GrpA Spec Shenpar Lower Mount
    GrpN Gearbox
    GrpN ECU
    GrpA Fork Mount

Even having the GrpA lower and fork mount means theres more chance of pulling the bottom of the car apart (theres like a plate/bracket to the lower mount)

But as said, youll just be moving the weakness point elsewhere by fitting Solids.

ye i had images of hittin a pot hole and somthing goin pop...

i would have powerflex lower mount
and solid battery tray side and solid ecu side... and the lower i would sell on and keep powerflex

Id rather keep the gearbox one rubber as it aint exactly spreading the load over a large area and heard rumours of the gearbox casings cracking.

ECU one imo would be alright, but i dont have any proof, just guessing.

Id rather keep the solid lower and sell the powerflex tbh, theyre both worth the same amoutn of £ anyway.

ye i heard the same thing about gear box casing

i will look into lower spec mounts
