Rear Axel Question

  1. #1
Dunno why but after reading some threads ive become abit paranoide about this so just some questions really.

How do you know your rear axel is gone or on its way out ? What do you need to check ? What symptons/signs ? What to look out for etc ?

I know alot of cars the back is slightly higher than the front but when I look at mine side on they are both level ?

    Thanks for any replies

Check the wheels or jus one wheel isnt like this:

    /-----|

    /-----\

Also check uneven tyrewear usually on the inside shoulder of the tyre. Can also wiggle the trailing arm when its jacked up, check for any play.

Ok my right rear wheel has a tiny amount of camber, tbh i think its been like that since ive had it (over a year).

Jacked it up and there is no play, the wheel is stiff. Had a look at the tyrewear and its the same on either side of the tyre, not uneven.

Also theres a good gap between them wheel and the inner wheel arch.

Hmm they do have aminor amount of camber as standard.

Why did you suspect the beam had gone?

just because i had the camber, read a few threads on here then thought ah fuck my beam has gone! but if you say they have abit of camber as standard then thats a huge relief !
my mate whos pretty handy with cars said its probably standard aswell as he couldnt see any play on the wheel or anything irregular

It is pretty obvious when they do go, so you shouldnt be too stumped as to wether its died or not! Keep an eye on tyre wear and any play though.

yeah i thought you could tell if they were on their way out, didnt think it was simply alive or dead lol. yeah ill keep an eye on it anyway, thanks for clearing that up mate
