Electrical help!

   Right heres one for you.
   
   My sidelights have stopped working apart from one at the rear, my main lights are working except for the same rear light, and the lights behind the instrument cluster are not working all together. I have changed the rear light bulb thats not working on either setting to a new bulb but there has been no change.
   
   Oh and somthing else, at first i noticed it because when i pressed the break the sidlights and instrument cluster lights would come on, then off again when i released the break but this has since stopped, now they just dont work as explained above.
   
   Its a mark 1 vtr 1999

   check the wiring round the rear lights and trace it through the car, might be a short somewhere if they were coming on with the brakes

   Random Q but does it happen in all gears etc?
   Reason i say it is because other day when i selected reverse and put my foot on the break the left indicator light would come on on the dash and actually on the bulbs, but they stayed on not flicked. But next day all was fine so i was confused as much too.....
   
   So i was thinking its a poss short on a cable somewhere and ive only changed rear lights

   bad earth or as gareth said yu have a shorth/ break in the wire

   Thanks will have a look for that in the daylight tomorrow, what should i do if i find somthing?
   
   As in reply to the comment above, i havnt noticed that, but its certainly wierd, all the different possible problems these french peices of s*** seem to be able to get, i suppose it keeps things interesting

   Where should i be looking for an earth for this? I cleaned up around the earth to the bottem right of the battery tray, because i new this could be a possibility but no luck.

   tape the wire up with insulation tape so it cant touch bare metal. have yu checked all yur fuses.

   theres one behind each headlight on the inner wing and one on each side of the boot under the plastic that the parcel shelf rests on.

   Yer i have checked the fuses all look in good order to me
