16V cam covers

    Just taken my cam covers off as there leaking, just want to know when I'm putting them back on and sealing them with instant gasket sould I take the original rubber gasket off or put the instant gasket over the to of it?

    i just covered mine in instant gasket as i found the original 1s hard to get from a motor factors just get sum instant gasked its a red putty in a green tube the 1 i used its sealed em gd but use lots!

    take the old stuff off as yours looks like it's come away from the cover itself

    Looks like when it got cammed the garage must of just left the old ones and put instant gasket on aswel. Cheers I'll get scraping it off then, I got loctite 5910 stuff as it looks the right stuff for the job to seal

    There are no gaskets/seals for the j4 covers so you'll have to use sealant

    If you use lots you get alot of excess that will eventually make its way into the engine, its great at blocking oilways and the pickup

    Give them a clean before you seal them
