who's running aftermarket fuel management?

  1. #1
As i'm looking to stick a turbo on my vtr I thought it would be good practice to get it running a aftermarket management system running on the car before getting into far with the conversion, because from where I see it, bolting a turbo and some pipe work together is the easy bit. but getting the car running on a different setup is a bit of dark area for me.

    so has anyone done it?
    how was it to install?
did you get a base map and how was it?

First of all... Decide who you want to map the car.

Then choose the management they prefer.

(or buy whatever if its cheap)

I've pm'd him but i can't see much joy coming from that as there doesn't appear to be enough interest to make a 3 plug ecu, and i'm running a 3 plug set up.

I've been looking at megasquirt which seems "ok", suppose I'll just have to order one and get stuck in.

i'm running dta management with the innovate lc-1. fitted and mapped by sandy brown.
i didn't even try to fit it as it looked like a massive ballache so i gave to a proffesional.

    +1

and then just a matter of wiring it in or buying a loom and fitting it

It you get the omex 600
You can buy a full race loom! Or buy the plugs & tails loom so you can make the loom to your specific spec

even with a full race loom its not just plug everyhting in, theres still a fair bit of work to do..

omex/dta/emerald is what id be going for

I do plug in loom conversions for DTA/OMEX/Emerald, all the main brands, race spec (as used on Maddison's). I'm very busy though, so it can take a few weeks.

Buy an omex. You'll get it this year for one...

omex stuff does look good, but wow does it get expensive quickly!!

I may have look into the mf2/sigcon/5th injector way of doing it, as my pockets aren't that deep! I only wanna run a small about of boost anyway, if I can get anywhere near 150bhp I'd be more than happy.

so if anyone has any info on that set up please let me know.

I have to say Beenie, be very careful, it may seem like a cheaper way of doing it, but if you have any trouble with the set up, your costs can overtake the cost of proper management very easily. Doing work like this on the cheap rarely works out any cheaper in the end.

I weighed up the standalone options and decided to give the predator a try... Has some good advantages.

The mf2/sigcon route I had previously used for 5 years or more and never had any problems. Before standalone became the accepted method, the mf2/sigcon route was used by 'everyone' and when new was far from a cheap option...

i understand the "buy cheap buy twice" rule of thumb, but i can't justify spending a grand on a standalone setup for a car thats worth a grand. that just doesn't make sense in my book. and besides the mf2/sigcon route isn't that "cheap" it's still gonna cost a couple of hundred, but compared to an omex set up yes it is cheap. I'm gonna try and use this as a stepping stone, once i have a turbo set up running i'll look into forged internals and build a tougher bottom end that'll cope with more with the stress.

and the search button really gets on my tits as "mf2" isn't enough characters to search

There are about 3 peeps on here selling mf2/sitcom setups. I've just sold mine. Can't remember the other chaps... Might be mr_n or mr_p

    Search for sigcon
